Chevron invites you to see what’s new at its Richmond refinery

It’s safe to say the Chevron Richmond Refinery has changed a little since this postcard was issued in 1944, when it was a holding of Standard Oil of California.
Chevron is holding its second annual Community Day Tour on Sept. 10 to see its current operations and its plans for the future.
If you want to sign up the deadline is Sept. 1.

  • Does that mean I can bring my bathing suit and take a break for a dip in the pool at the Standard Oil Rod&Gun Club Park? I would love to see what they’ve done with the place since I last visited in 1982. I used to be able to go to the refinery’s exclusive private Park, reserved for employees only, because my grandfather worked there as a pipefitter from the early 1950s until his retirement. I learned how to swim at this place. I’m guessing that going through the refinery means not having to smell that mixture of sulphur and other chemicals? Because, boy, it sure was hard to make it through the refinery to get to the park area in the 60s without holding your nose! 😀
