El Cerrito police log for June 15-21

The El Cerrito Police Department is releasing information about recent crime activity.
June 15
Motorcycle Collision – Richmond Street at Glenwood Way
Officers responded to a solo vehicle motorcycle collision where the motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle. The motorcycle slid several feet and lodged under a parked vehicle. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
Residential Burglary – 3300 block of Yosemite Avenue
Officers responded to an in progress residential burglary on the 3300 block of Yosemite and detained two suspects leaving the area. The suspects, a man and a woman, were taken into custody and found to be in possession of stolen property. While searching for their mode of transportation, officers located a parked vehicle that had been reported stolen to Fremont PD in May.
Shoplifting – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Avenue
Officers responded to Safeway for a report of a shoplifting. A 21-year-old man was placed under citizen’s arrest and taken into custody.
Suspicious Circumstance – 6800 block of Glen Mawr Avenue
Officers investigated a suspicious circumstance on the 6800 block of Glen Mawr Avenue where a male in his 20’s rang the doorbell of the victim’s residence several times. The victim looked into the backyard and saw a male juvenile lurking through the backyard. The subject then hopped over the perimeter fence and joined several other suspects in a dark grey sedan, possibly a Honda. The vehicle fled westbound on Ganges Avenue prior to officer’s arrival.
Residential Burglary – 500 Block of Albemarle
Officers investigated a residential burglary where someone forced open the front door to the residence and stole property.

Driving under the Influence – Intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Central Avenue
At 0051 hours, Officer Leone conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a 19-year-old Richmond resident for DUI.
June 16
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1100 block of King Drive
Officer Guzman located a stolen Dodge Dakota reported stolen to Richmond PD in April.
Possession of Controlled Substance – Intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Hill Street
Officer Thepkaysone conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a 30-year-old San Pablo man for possession of cocaine.
Warrant Arrest – Intersection of Richmond Street and Moeser Lane
Officer Arnaiz conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 19-year-old Richmond resident, for an outstanding warrant.
Vehicle Collision – Intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Eureka Avenue
Officers responded to a report of a collision involving an automobile and a pedestrian. Upon arrival officers discovered that two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue. A 20-year-old pedestrian was transported to John Muir Medical Center by helicopter and the other pedestrian, another 20-year-old man, was transported to Highland Medical Center in Oakland by ambulance. ECPD traffic collision investigators were called to the scene and are conducting the investigation.
Vehicle Pursuit – Intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Central Avenue
Officers initiated a slow speed vehicle pursuit after witnessing a vehicle code violation and attempting to stop the driver. The driver failed to yield to the officer’s lights and siren and continued driving to his home on the 700 block of Pierce Street in Albany. The driver, a 31-year-old Albany man, was taken into custody without further incident.
June 17
DUI Collision – 800 block of S. 55th Street
Officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision into a parked car. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2004 BMW had lost control and struck a residential home and came to rest in the driveway. The driver, a 19-year-old Richmond resident, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the hospital for minor injuries sustained from the crash.
Shoplifting – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Avenue
Officers responded to Safeway for a report of a shoplifting that had just occurred. Officers identified the two suspects and arrested a 39-year-old Oakland man and a 22-year-old San Leandro woman for theft, in the parking lot.
June 18
Counterfeit of registered mark – 1400 Block of Carlson Boulevard
Officer Otten conducted a suspicious vehicle check and discovered the occupant, a 41-year-old Richmond resident, was selling counterfeit DVD’s and CD’s. The subject was arrested and booked at the ECPD.
June 19
Stolen Vehicle – 1200 Block of Everett St.
Officer Maldonado reports someone stole a blue 1989 Honda, Civic, 4-door between 6/18/12 1930 hours & 6/19/12 0741 hours.
Collision and Possession of Concealed Weapon – San Pablo Ave. at Stockton Ave.
Officers responded to a reported vehicle versus a motorcycle collision at San Pablo Ave. and Stockton Ave. Upon arrival, they discovered the operator of the motorcycle, a 30-year-old Oakland man, sustained serious injury to his ankle and needed medical attention. During the initial check of the motorcyclist, Officers found him in possession of a loaded pistol with a high capacity magazine. Officers seized the firearm and detectives will send the investigation to the District Attorney for prosecution.
Attempted Burglary – 2500 block of Edwards Ave.
Officers responded after two juveniles attempted to break into a residence. The home was occupied by the son of the owners. When the suspects realized there was someone home, they fled in an unknown direction. The suspects damaged the rear door in their burglary attempt.
Possession of a controlled substance – Potrero Avenue @ South 55th Street
Officer Chalk conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 31-year-old Oakland resident for being in possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
Battery – San Pablo Avenue @ Central Avenue
Officers were dispatched to a report of a large fight in a nearby parking lot. Upon arrival, officers arrested an 18-year-old Albany resident and a juvenile for battery. Both parties were booked at the ECPD.
Officer Del Prado and K-9 Koda
Today Officer Del Prado and Koda successfully completed a 200-hour narcotics detection course which was held in Sonoma County. Officer Del Prado and Koda also recently completed a 200-hour handler protection course. Officer Del Prado and Koda will be returning to patrol during the week of the 25th.
June 20
Conspiracy to commit Burglary – Lucky’s, 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
Cpl Wahrlich reports a woman entered the store, stole alcohol and fled in a waiting 1996, gold, Mercedes 4 door with a red #5 in the rear window. Witnesses last saw the vehicle and suspects headed toward Albany.
June 21
Stolen Vehicle – 3000 block of Yolo Ave.
Officer Arnaiz reports a car thief stole a 1990, red, Toyota Camry from this location. The theft occurred between 6/20/2012 2300 hours & 06/21/2012 0600 hours.
Shoplifting – Lucky’s, 1000 El Cerrito Plaza
Officer Arnaiz accepted the citizen arrest of a 63-year-old Albany man after he stole a birthday card and newspaper from the store.
