Mexican deli, downtown Richmond’s oldest shop, will be closing no later than the end of the year

A "for sale" sign is nailed on the side of La Perla Mexican Delicatessen on Tuesday.

We saw the for sale sign going up on Tuesday and we confirmed it on Wednesday: The family that owns La Perla Mexican Delicatessen, a fixture in downtown Richmond since 1949, is selling the building.
The shop at Fourth Street and Nevin Avenue is still popular — its Facebook page has just under 2,600 “Likes” — but after more than 60 years as a family-run business, the time has come to do other things say members of the Ponce family.
Folks who want to get a last burrito should be aware that the shop will close when the building is sold or the end of the year, whichever comes first.
We’re working on a story about La Perla for next week and invite your comments and memories on this page or by emailing them to ctreadway(at)bayareanewsgroup.com
